Converting ideas into design guidelines, giving the project a directing narrative, is essential. From an abstract photograph of stacked objects to a constructive system, a coherence through the different scales of the project is made visible, beyond the pragmatisms of construction.

While the approach of each project is specific—from the observation of the context to the transcription of the program—the works are linked following a continuous experiment on structure and composition.

Gathering visual references, as well as producing images, through the medium of photography and collage, are a constant part of the design process: To draw and communicate ideas of space, atmosphere and identity.

From the German tangieren (to affect, to touch on) and its relation to the definition of the tangent in geometry, the studio places itself in a back-and-forth between contextual reinterpretation and contrast, pursuing its own architectural language.

Raphael Kadid trained as an architect in the office of Diener & Diener (2012–2018) and Buchner Bründler (2018–2021) in Basel. Alongside practice he currates the Daily Dose art and architecture newsletter since 2013, and runs Raphael Kadid Objects, founded in 2020 in Basel.
